ZetaChain to shut down blockchain, migrate ZETA token to Solana after 99% vote approval

ZetaChain community members have overwhelmingly approved a proposal to discontinue the project’s independent Layer 1 blockchain and move the native ZETA token to the Solana ecosystem. The governance vote, referenced as Proposal 68, received 99.4% support with 58% voter participation, surpassing the 40% quorum threshold required for approval. Community-backed transition to Solana ZetaChain is a blockchain project originally designed to provide cross-chain interoperability and raised $27 million in 2023 for its development efforts. The recent governance outcome marks a significant shift away from maintaining its own blockchain, with resources redirected toward a specialized privacy-focused artificial intelligence platform known as Anuma. The decision follows a community vote in which token holders supported migrating ZETA from a native asset on ZetaChain to an SPL token on Solana. This move aims to leverage Solana’s established speed, active liquidity, and growing infrastructure for AI and agent-based applications. A statement from ZetaChain’s governance channels highlighted, “Solana’s speed, liquidity, and AI agent infrastructure allow the team to focus on expanding Anuma, the private AI platform now serving over 300,000 users.” Solana’s advanced infrastructure presents a compelling environment for projects prioritizing scalability and AI integration, according to ZetaChain leadership. Migration process and next steps Under the approved plan, current ZETA holders will receive new tokens on Solana in a direct 1:1 conversion, preserving both the ZETA ticker and total supply cap. Token vesting schedules established on the existing network will transfer to Solana intact. The current governance approval does not cover ZETA tokens on networks like Ethereum or BNB Chain and is focused exclusively on ZetaChain’s native Layer 1 deployment. Implementation of the migration will not be immediate. A second governance vote is required to determine the block height for snapshotting user balances, set a final shutdown block, and outline procedures for users to claim their migrated tokens on Solana. ZetaChain representatives stated this secondary vote will occur after major cryptocurrency exchanges commit to handling the transition technically. Staking functionality on ZetaChain will remain available during the interim. The development team has not yet provided information about staking or rewards mechanisms after ZETA’s migration to Solana.
