XRP Holders Could Soon Get Paid to Hold XRP. Here’s What Uphold Plans

Crypto analyst Steph Is Crypto (@Steph_iscrypto) recently posted a bold claim to his audience. He revealed that XRP holders could soon get paid to hold the token. He pointed at Uphold, stating the wait is “almost over.” Uphold is building a feature called “Earn on XRP.” The company’s Chief Product Officer confirmed on September 3 that the product is in its final development phase. Uphold holds 1.62 billion XRP on its platform, representing 1.63% of all XRP in circulation. This design makes it considerably more efficient while preserving its decentralized design. However, there is no native staking mechanism to plug into. That has historically made it difficult for platforms to offer yield on XRP the way they can with Ethereum or Solana. Uphold is working around this through DeFi infrastructure. The approach involves Flare Network, an EVM-compatible blockchain that allows the creation of FXRP, a wrapped version of XRP. Once a user opts in, Uphold locks their XRP in reserve and represents that value on the Flare blockchain as FXRP. That wrapped token can then participate in DeFi strategies and liquidity pools. What the Launch Will Look Like Uphold has confirmed the feature targets regulated, safe yield opportunities for U.S. holders. The company is also working to secure New York’s BitLicense before launch, signaling a compliance-first approach. Official terms and interest rates have not been published yet. Uphold has said those details will arrive in the coming weeks. The XRP yield ecosystem is expanding, and the DeFi infrastructure being used offers some reference points for yield benchmarks. The earnXRP product, built on Flare Network by Upshift Finance and Clearstar, targets yields of 4% to 10% APR depending on vault size. The platform never delisted the token during the SEC lawsuit. It now offers a debit card with up to 6% XRP back and various perks. Adding yield on held XRP is the next logical step in that strategy. The company has over 10 million users across more than 140 countries. Once it’s live, the Earn on XRP feature will initially target U.S. holders, applying to one of the largest single XRP holdings of any platform in the crypto space.
